I use mouthwash every day, is this a good practice?

I also use mouthwash, why do my teeth still have caries?

I have patients who ask, "I also use mouthwash, why do my teeth still have caries?" or "Is it necessary to gargle after brushing?"

First of all, we should know that mouthwash and gargling are not the same things. Mouthwashes are care products sold in cosmetic markets and chain markets. Gargles are products that contain therapeutic ingredients such as chlorhexidine and hyaluronic acid and are usually purchased from pharmacies.

I do not recommend my patients use gargles for longer than one week.

But I tell my patients who want to use mouthwash that they can use alcohol-free ones every day because some patients say that they like the refreshing feeling these care waters leave in the mouth. However, an important issue should not be forgotten: these mouthwash products alone are never enough to provide oral hygiene. The most critical step in oral care is mechanical cleaning the teeth with a brush. Mouthwash products can also be used after proper brushing and flossing.
