Porcelain Fillings (Inlay and Onlay Restorations)

Tooth Coloured Porcelain Restoration

Inlay fillings are a savior treatment option for cases where the remaining tissue in your tooth is not enough to be filled but enough to be coated. In these cases, if we prefer composite filling instead of inlay filling (especially in molar (back) teeth), your tooth cannot withstand the biting and chewing forces and may break after a while and even need to be pulled out. In other words, if inlay fillings are performed correctly, they protect your teeth for many years.

Composite fillings, especially on teeth with root canal treatment, may result in tooth fracture after a while. In this case, depending on the fracture line, the tooth may even be pulled out. The reason is that teeth with root canal treatment are lifeless as their nerves have been removed and they are more prone to fracture. Protecting these teeth by making porcelain filling ensures that the tooth stays in the mouth for a very long time, even for a lifetime.

Composite fillings are fillings we make inside the mouth and they have the disadvantages of a composite. Besides, composite is weaker than porcelain as a material. Porcelain fillings, on the other hand, are prepared in a laboratory environment after the measurement of your teeth is taken and they adhere to your teeth with special adhesives. They do not go out or fall out of the tooth.
